A lessee, or a tenant, is a person who rents property or land from a lessor. To continue renting access to a property, the lessee must respect the conditions of the rental contract. Leases are legally binding documents that lead to eviction if the tenant fails to comply with its terms.
While the lessees are bound to comply with their rental responsibilities, they are also protected by tenant rights. These include the right to basic standard of habitability such as water, heat, electricity, and a living environment that complies with building safety codes.
